Reflection

This post will be the last post for this assignment and through this whole journey of blogging I have actually learn something. I have learned that being journalism or blogger or a writer I have to think on the reader's perception to get a better understanding of what's the limitation of what should be written and what shouldn't be. According to Putnis and Petelin (1996), because writing and reading are intimately connected, it is essential for writers to understand how readers read, and to write in a reader-sensitive, reader-based way.

Besides that, blogging is a great way of sharing experience, discuss some issues with friends around the world, and also helps to educate me even better. Thus, blogging don't have to be always about personal but it may leads to everyday's issues.

Gameboy? Ps2? It's all about Mobile Gaming...

Come and think of it, recently what most people are playing with? Gameboy? Ps2? Not any of that but iPhone and iPad is the latest trend for the now people. What's so awesome about both of it was their apps and that's what cause an 'I' product to cost so much. For me, when i come across both iPhone and iPad, the first thing I think of will be their Angry Birds which mean it's a gaming app. There's this article title 'Angry Birds: 200m downloads are the tip of the mobile gaming iceberg', which basically about half of all the iOS downloads are games. Between 50% and 75% of iPhone owners are playing games on their devices (Guardian.co.uk 2011).

On my opinion, I think all this 'I' gadgets are produce for gamer lover or anyone who would want to try out all the apps which I'm one of it that will purchase just for the awesome application they have. Just because they have great application therefore it leads to viral marketing. According to marketingterms.com (2011), viral marketing is the marketing phenomenon that facilitates and encourages people to pass along a marketing message. For example, this Angry Birds game are going through the viral marketing because we can see or hear it that many people are actually talking about it about how this game is an addiction thus, that's how the message passes around from people to people. As this company who created Angry Birds is actually very well successful managing on it.

It's More Than a New Media.

Now days who still want to be a stingy person who never shares anything? I bet everyone did at least share something online. I did share my favourite song with my friends all around the world and my families in Facebook by just share a link or upload a video. With this entire new media, I could easily get connected anytime, anywhere and whenever I want with my friends and family. I still remember during the Japan disaster few months ago, many video footage and pictures about it have been uploaded all around the internet right after it happened few hours later. This news transfer faster than it used to be with the help of new media. After all isn't it great to have such awesome media around us?

Besides that, the appearance of new media allowed an individual to express freely. For instance, there's this article titled 'social media, cellphone video fuel Arab protest' which basically about the Egyptian anti-government street protesters uses their cellphone cameras to snap images and record video of the demonstration. The shaky footage of peaceful protests- and image of horrific carnage- have been uploaded to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube and other sites and aired on pan-Arab satellite TV stations like Al-Jazeera (Techcentral.my 2011).

Come across with all this, actually anyone can be a journalism which known as citizen journalism. According to Rogers (2011) explains, citizen journalism is when private individuals do essentially what professional reporters do which is report information which can include text, pictures, audio and video, and usually citizen journalism can be found online such as blogs, podcasts, streaming video and other Web-related innovations.

With the existing of new media which can gets to connect to each other easily and may share and discuss opinion about anything thus, it lead to the existing of the public sphere. According to worldbank.org (2011) the public sphere is the arena where citizens come together, exchange opinions regarding public affairs, discuss, deliberate, and eventually from public opinion.

Therefore, with all the new media we have now would be very beneficial to everyone as it isn't just a media itself and somehow it can do more than that with least expectations.

Not Everyone Have the Same Thought !

It's common that we are looking at the same image but don't have the same perception about it because some people might think an image of a beach is relaxing and some might think of it very boring and some might think of it as a disaster. Just like this article about 'Berita Harian issues public apology over tsunami cartoon'. This article is about a Malay daily publication apologizing to the public about the cartoon comic drawn for publishing is "distasteful" and "insensitive" by Mohd Zohri Sukimi or popularly known as Zoy (The Star Online 2011).

Through this cartoon comic of a Ultraman which well-known as a superhero from Japan running away from being hit by tsunami. Somehow, this might be a joke for some readers but it might also lead to criticism by some readers especially right after Japan been through such disaster. Therefore according to Kress and Leeuwan (2006), we see images entirely within the realm of the realizations and instantiations of ideology, as means-always-for the articulation of ideology position.

As for my perception, this cartoon comic is not humorous at all and somehow it actually makes me felt a little offensive and wouldn't want to look at it any longer or trying to understand fully what the cartoonist meant. It's a total disrespect to Japan that the cartoonist drew such comic after what have Japan been through with the worst disaster ever. Besides that, I think this incident will downgraded other countries' perception towards Malaysia as one inconsiderate country because the publication would just publish such things without having further thought whether it is appropriate or not.

Plagiarism ?

Plagiarism is the act of taking another person's writing or idea and passing it off as your own (What is Plagiarism, 2011). Commonly, plagiarism is one word that most of us will familiar with especially students. Lecturers will always be the one who remind us not to plagiarize. According to Plagiarism.org (2011), in a sample of 1,800 students at nine state universities, 84% admitted to cheating on written assignments, and 52% had copied a few sentences from a website without citing the source. Besides that, according to Attwood (2008), in a survey of 93 UK higher education institutions, a total of 9,229 cases of plagiarism were recorded in one year.

As Maurer et al. (2006, p. 1050) mention, plagiarism in the sense of "theft of intellectual property" has been around for as long as humans have produced work of art and research, however, easy access to the Web, large databases, and telecommunication in general has turned plagiarism into a serious problem for publishers, researchers and educational institutions.

There's this article named 'Plagiarism: The Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V boom' which was published on BBC News Magazine about the issues of plagiarism has been a problem for many years which not only students commit in such act but same goes to well-known politician people, and the internet now offers students unparalleled opportunities to duplicate and to fabricate such as Google who gave students access to a much greater library of texts thus, the opportunities to harvest material have increased by as easy as Googling the subject matter and hitting Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V (BBC News Magazine 2011).

In my opinion, by just taking someone's idea without citing them isn't fair for the person who originally created it. To avoid from such act it's real important to take note of this tips when you're going to use someone's idea next time which are paraphrase-never use someone else's words, use quotation marks when you going to use the words exactly in a sentence, and make sure you cite who is your sources (Buzzle.com 2011). Thus, all this plagiarism should have placed a 'full-stop' to avoid such unfortunate act that would harm you and others.
